I was a huge movie fan in high school and college. When I wasn’t working at the local theater, I was there to see free flicks and socialize. In college, I dated a guy who had aspirations of directing films. And I once worked at a company which put more effort into the annual Oscar party than the Christmas party.

But in recent years, I just haven’t been able to generate much interest in Hollywood’s big night.  I believe my Oscar-blahs have a lot to do with the films I’ve been watching since I’ve had children. The new releases I have seen in the last six months were either animated, produced by Nickelodeon or involved teen-age vampires. Not really Oscar fare.

But this year is going to be different! I’m blogging the AMC Big Picture Showcase. I can’t tell you how excited I am to spend the day without kids watching grown-up movies!

Need some movie-therapy? Your local AMC theater will be showing all five Oscar Best Picture Nominees this Saturday, Feb. 21. Tickets are just $30, but you can save $5 if you’re a MovieWatchers member. Oh, did I mention there’s a bottomless popcorn bucket?
