I’m with you. Even Wikipedia says that Ronald McDonald is the second most recognizable figure to kids next to Santa Claus! Guess this is how they maintain that. It’s all about branding. They don’t have to show the kids the food to get into their heads. Have you seen McDonald’s new virtual world? Yikes!

We had the McDoo attack yesterday at our school. I’m still fuming. The resulting emails flying including this, from a PTA organizer:

“We made perfectly sure there was no direct advertisement, and there was not.”

Huh? You put the number two ranked global advertising icon in front of children, dancing, singing, shouting all together, and you’re going to tell me there was no direct advertising?

Arrgh.

We have a “Ronald McDonald friendship Assembly” scheduled for my daughter’s elementary school next week. I’m disgusted, but am not really sure what to do about it other than to build on your excellent letter above.
