Check the Label Before You Buy that Sunscreen
Posted by Lisa in Marketing to Kids, tags: health, kids, labels, marketing, sunscreenI’m not sure if I can really call it spring yet because we saw snowflakes a few days ago and frost on the ground this morning. However, I’m starting to get those summer camp checklists and sunscreen permission forms. Luckily, I came across a great post this morning at Crunchy Domestic Goddess which explains some of the hidden dangers in sunscreen. She gives a nice rundown on three toxic chemicals lurking in sunscreen: Oxybenzone, DMDM Hydantoin and Triethanolamine.
Amy’s frustration is that sunscreens which are labeled for use on children contain the same chemicals and concentrations as adult products. Because children are smaller they get a stronger dose of the chemicals.
Both of my children are extremely sensitive to sunscreens. Most brands give them an angry rash. I’ve always assumed this was because of perfumes, now I’m wondering. I’ve managed to find one brand that doesn’t cause a rash but it’s time to check the label.
