missbimbo.jpgMiss Bimbo is the newest site to outrage parents. The virtual fashion game was recently launched in the UK and has caused a storm of controversy. A CNN article reports that game play in Miss Bimbo includes:

Users are given missions, including securing plastic surgery at the game’s clinic to give their dolls bigger breasts, and they have to keep her at her target weight with diet pills, which cost 100 bimbo dollars.

Breast implants sell at 11,500 bimbo dollars and net the buyer 2,000 bimbo attitudes, making her more popular on the site.

And bagging a billionaire boyfriend is the most desirable way to earn the all important “mula” or bimbo dollars.

Miss Bimbo was designed by a 23-year-old Frenchman and is aimed at impressionable girls ages 9 to 16. While the game may be amusing for adults, it sends terrible messages for girls who are already confounded by their changing bodies and facing an onslaught of distorted beauty messages.

The video below from CNN includes an interview with the game’s developer and information on the controversy.

What’s scary is that the game has attracted over 200,000 users in the UK and 1.2 million in France. The game is free to play, but when the players run out of virtual dollars they can buy more by sending text messages via mobile or PayPal. I don’t quite understand the concept of “sending text messages.” But perhaps girls sending text messages to friends is the real secret to the game’s viral spread.

As moms we run into things every day which are not in our kid’s best interest. Miss Bimbo certainly fits that category. I’ll be blocking this site via my Internet filtering software.

Why am I hearing, “Mamas, Don’t let your babies grow up to be bimbos?”
