Previously, I listed my Top 5 sticky factors for social networks. One social community which has the right blend is mixx. While mixx is fairly young, the community quickly won me over. Mixx has gained considerable traction in just 100 days. This is one social network that understands the importance of open communication with its users.
Disgruntled users from other networks are finding their way to mixx. Spam is well controlled and users are rabid about submitting fresh, quality content. Friends are made easily on mixx and comments do not turn into flame wars.
Unlike other networks, mixx has content areas with broad appeal. I’m delighted that there is content here not just on technology, but also on parenting, health, the environment, photography and much more. Mixx also has a diverse user base — young and old, male and female. Unlike digg, I rarely find content offensive to women here. And I’ve even been able to find Star Wars fans in the mixx.
I’ve contacted mixx support for one or two technical questions or issues and have quickly received a personalized response. Mixx is committed to open communication channels. The Mixx Blog keeps users informed about changes. Core mixxers have started an unofficial blog at MixxingBowl.
In a short period of time, mixx has not only won my loyalty, but it has even changed my Internet habits. I now have a desire to submit new content to mixx. As such, I’ve added a host of feeds to my reader for topics near and dear to my heart. I welcome emails from my mixx friends about their new content and I’ve joined a number of groups around my interests. This represents a sizeable uptick in my social media participation and is a pretty healthy time commitment from a full-time working mom. Despite all that, I’m loving it.
Last week, I got a nice surprise package from mixx. They sent an unsolicited, free batch of great swag to my house. How cool is that? It’s nice to be appreciated. So maybe they want me to be a walking billboard, but that’s fine by me.
I have a gut feeling that mixx is winning hearts all over the place. Hey, why don’t you get in the mixx? Here’s my mixx user page. Come on in and enjoy the blend.
